Resort Redevelopment Flood Study

A resort sitting on a chain of interconnected dams fed by a proclaimed brook, with water levels swinging hard between seasons and a terrace that flooded in winter — assessed for planning approval and for the civil design that had to fix it.

The work came in two stages. A water balance established why the dams behaved the way they did across a year and what could be changed; the flood assessment then mapped depths and velocities for the 10%, 5% and 1% AEP events, existing and proposed, to prove the fix moved nobody else’s flood risk.

Impounding a proclaimed watercourse constrains the answer before the modelling starts — total storage cannot grow, and altering the bed or banks is its own permit. The design had to solve a seasonal water level problem without touching either lever.
