Gas Peaking Plant Water Assessment
Overview
Surface water assessment for a fast-start open-cycle gas plant on cleared agricultural land north of Perth — run early enough to decide where inside a twenty-hectare lot the plant should actually sit.
Location
Mid West, WA
Sector
Energy & Power
Scope
Flood Impact Assessment · Hydrology for Approvals
Sub-regional and local models were built and run together, with flood depth, velocity and afflux mapped from each. Only about a tenth of the lot was to be occupied, so the useful output was not a single flood map but a comparison of the places the plant could go.
Assessing flood risk after a layout is fixed leaves you managing it. Assessing it while the footprint can still move inside its own lot lets you design most of it out — which is the cheapest mitigation available on any project.
