Rail yard in the Pilbara
Rail yard in the Pilbara

Selected Project

Rail Yard Stormwater

Pilbara, WA · Surface Water Management

Overview

Stormwater and drainage strategy for an active rail yard in cyclone-prone country — designed to keep the corridor operating through the wet season, not just survive it.

Location

Pilbara, WA

Sector

Mining & Resources

Scope

Surface Water Management · Hydraulic Structure Design

The brief covered two problems at once: getting water off the rail formation fast enough to keep trains running, and sizing the culverts and drainage around the yard so the fix upstream didn't just push the problem downstream.

Drainage capacity was sized against cyclonic rainfall intensities rather than standard urban criteria, with erosion and sediment controls built into the yard layout from the outset.
