Selected Project
Hydrogen Plant Detention Basins
Overview
Detention basin sizing across several land reclamation scenarios for a Gulf Coast blue hydrogen and ammonia development — the drainage design that had to work whichever reclamation footprint the project ultimately adopted.
Location
Texas, USA
Sector
Renewables & Energy Transition
Scope
Hydraulic Structure Design · Flood Hydrology & Modelling
Each basin was sized so the post-development inflow hydrograph discharged at no more than the pre-development peak flow, with containment measures carried through the design where runoff could pick up contaminants from the reclaimed ground beneath it.
On reclaimed land, a detention basin is doing two jobs at once — holding the hydrograph back to pre-development rates, and making sure what it holds does not migrate. Sizing it for the first alone gets the number right and the design wrong.
